The Necronomicon first appears in H.P. Lovecraft's story The Hound (1922), although it makes numerous other appearances in Lovecraft's works, notably: The Call of Cthulhu (1928), The Dunwich Horror (1929), At the Mountains of Madness (1936), and The Case of Charles Dexter Ward (1941).
